Dijon, France

The Grateful Dead become the big throbbing music machine of 1974 during this show...the first set is so sweet and pure...UJB is fantastic, the intro to Jack Straw melts...BTW is perhaps the best version out there and for 1974 Scarlet Begonias this is the one...in all it's mars Hotel glory, but better...Lay Me Down and Playin' are smooth...by the time Phil and Ned are through earboarding the audience, the third set is a welcome relief, particularly He's Gone on...do check it out or may Bob Weir sing Morning Dew in your dreams tonight...

Set One:
Uncle John's Band
Jack Straw
Friend Of The Devil
Black Throated Wind
Scarlet Begonias
Mexicali Blues
Row Jimmy
Beat It On Down The Line
Deal
The Race Is On
To Lay Me Down
Playin' In The Band

Set Two:
Phil And ned

Set Three:
Loose Lucy
Big River
Peggy-O
Me & My Uncle
Eyes Of The World ->
China Doll
He's Gone ->
Truckin' ->
Drums ->
Caution Jam ->
Ship Of Fools
Johnny B. Goode

This show has coincidentally been in my rotation for the last week. I think I've listened to the first set three or four times over the last 7 days.

Listening again, on a slow, mellow Saturday morning.
I'm marvelling at Billy's awesome cymbal work on Mexicali Blues....pity about Bobby forgetting the vocals.

It really is an awesome first set.

I guess every one missed your sarcasm- But I laughed out loud when I read your line about Phil and Ned "earboarding" the audience- hilarious

At the twelve and a half minute mark of PITB there is a distinct Garcia riff to the song "We've got the funk"
